You pick a fight with a man seated near you in the restaurant. “I wish you had the courage to face me,” you dare. Then the man stands up: 6′ 8″ tall with shoulders as broad as a bear. “Okay, I’ll meet you outside. Let’s go.” Suddenly, you’re not so brave. All the big talk was just that: talk. Now you realize how small you are, how big your mouth is, and how much you want out of this match.
That is a fair picture of Job. He talked about how unfair God was treating him and how he wished God would give an account. When God spoke to him from the whirlwind, Job confessed that he rambled about things he did not know then covered his mouth in silence. His “helpful” friends, who misrepresented God and His grace, needed Job to intercede in their behalf. Then God proved, once again, His abundance as He restored Job and multiplied what he possessed previously.
Our awesome God truly answers to no one. He holds all power and might in His hands; there are none who compare to Him. Yet, this God who creates all of creation with a word, cares for each person.
God, thank you for caring for me, even when I speak of things which I do not know. Thank you for forgiving, healing, restoring. Thank you for loving me.
